Versatile Vestibule

There was various-sized wood paneling that I thought was too busy, so we put horizontal shiplap ¾ up the wall, with a shelf on top to hold knickknacks and accessories. The previous homeowner’s sister did a drawing of the house, which is now custom-framed as soon as you walk in, surrounded by drawings of houses in my hometown. Below that is what I refer to as my museum of things we found in the house: a vintage Coca-Cola bottle in the woods, a spray bottle in the closet, a cast iron in the laundry room, a toy car in the radiator, an old beer bottle and a window sash weight in the basement. We found a bunch of old newspapers stuffed in the walls (the oldest from 1964 about JFK!) which used for insulation back in the day, so I framed them and put a current newspaper inside the new walls. In front of the windows I hung glass frames from our wedding. Above our door is a horseshoe we found on the property which symbolizes good luck especially when hung with the points up to "catch" luck!

It had unoriginal wood floors, so when I found these black/white/gray 8-pointed star patterned tiles, which symbolize fertility & abundance (our money tree has grown tremendously), I knew they had to go in our home! I chose a matching star light fixture.

It mainly serves as a mudroom for taking off shoes and hanging coats (onto the bakelite doorknobs that I repurposed from the original house!) The matching white rocking chairs are a perfect place to sip coffee or take a phone call with a friend. The console table is convenient for putting bags down and opening packages. The 5-pain original glass door in between the vestibule and foyer comes in handy to keep gusts of wind out of the house, and my kangaroo-jumping-dog off of our guests as they walk in the door🦘

A connection point between the vestibule, dining room & living room. The mirror mimics the archway, and is a good check before walking out the door. The painting with 3 birds compliments the light fixture with 3 glass bulbs.

Acqua dell’Elba Mare ~ I found this scent in a lobby in Italy, and I spray it in our lobby before we have guests over🌊
